Established in 1899 with donations and subscriptions that were collected as part of the members’ bills, it was set up cautiously with independent management — a small committee and Secretary and a separate bank account — till a regular readership was established. Amalgamated with the club in 1906, it now has a collection of more than twenty thousand books and a reading list that is updated regularly. Open-air movie nights were once organised on the lawn with films projected on the Library wall. Book Club meetings, talks and lectures, quiz competitions, demonstrations, art and dance classes, western music lessons and nature workshops are regularly held in the Library Auditorium.ompetitions, demonstrations, art and dance classes, western music lessons and nature workshops are regularly held in the Library Auditorium.
