Dining Hall
One of the oldest rooms in the club, modelled along the lines of the semi-circular ballroom at the Mysore Residency. In the early 1900s, subscribers and residents of the Chambers came in here for daily Messing. Its sprung wood floor, detailing and impressive high ceiling, achieved without any intermediate weight bearing columns, indicate that this is where officers and their ladies danced before the Annexe came into being. Two small alcoves on either side of the central area are where dinner was served for those who wished to eat before the standard time of eight p.m. Multiple-moulded arches sit on a heavy entablature supported by twin columns and the tall pilasters have Corinthian capitals that are linked with a course of moulded cornices and dentils. For several decades, a special feature of the twelve-seater long ‘Club-table’ that occupies the centre of the Hall was that it was thoughtfully directed at solo diners who could choose to sit beside each other at dinner and enjoy some company.
